Baluch Rug

Baluch carpets, named after the Baluch people, are distinctive handwoven rugs with a rich cultural heritage. These carpets originate from the regions surrounding Mashhad, Torbat-e-Jam, Torbat Heydariyeh, and Khaf in eastern Iran. Crafted by nomadic tribal women and settled villagers on simple looms, Baluch rugs are renowned for their somber elegance and their skilful use of geometric patterns, including repeated diamond motifs, stylised animals, and prayer rug designs. These carpets typically feature a more subdued colour palette dominated by dark blue, black, rich red, and earthy brown, often complemented by small touches of ivory or soft green.
