Shiraz Rug

Shiraz carpets have a rich history dating back centuries, with references to carpet making in the Fars region as early as the 9th century A.D. While the name suggests origin in the city of Shiraz, these carpets actually come from a broader area encompassing small towns, villages, and nomadic communities around Shiraz in southwestern Iran. The rugs are crafted by various groups including the Qashqa’i, Khamseh federation tribes, and Luri and Arab communities of Fars. Shiraz itself serves as the main trading center for these carpets, which have been marketed under the Shiraz name since the 19th century. Known for their vibrant colors and distinctive geometric patterns, Shiraz carpets typically feature bold reds, blues, and browns, often with striking medallion designs or nature-inspired motifs. Handwoven from high-quality wool, these durable rugs showcase a slightly irregular weave that adds to their authentic charm and brings warmth to any interior.
